Good, but not brilliant The block provides some much-needed drawer storage (and the drawer is quite deep) and a great shelf. It’s attractive, sturdy and just the right size. So, why not 5 stars? Because the gorgeously-grained, lusciously smooth butcher block top gets marred when in contact with even the smallest amount of liquid for more than a minute or two. I’ve used the Boos recommended cream and mystery oil regularly, but it hasn’t solved the problem. I have to use very finely grained sandpaper to remove the raised bumps and even then, the surface isn’t fully restored. I’m not placing wet items directly on the surface either, I always use a cutting board, but freshly washed produce always has some water clinging to it that ends up on the block’s surface. My other minor complaint is that the drawer sometimes sticks, which makes it difficult to push it in the last half inch or so. Absolutely Love It!!! I was looking for a nice cutting board to be used in my home for some extra counter space and knew that no brand was better than Boos when it comes to boards/blocks/etc, so I started my search from there. When I came across this cherry beauty on Amazon at a price I simply could not refuse, I made probably the best impulse buy of my life. It took roughly two weeks to ship and when it did, it was brought to my house on the back of a pickup truck. Seriously, the shipping weight was over 300 pounds and the actual weight of the block is over 200 pounds. Luckily, I had a friend who was able to help me carry the thing into my house. After about 10 minutes of putting it together (only 8 anchor screws if I recall) it was together and we moved it into my kitchen. I applied a full coat of boos oil to the top which soaked in overnight to seal the board. Honestly, it has been nearly two months since that day and I have to say that I have yet to cut on the block. It’s a perfect fit! I added this to my kitchen and it looks great and has created a wonderful space to prep food. And the price was right. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is because it came on a pallet, unassembled. This may be typical, but I didn’t expect to have to deal with this. Not blaming the delivery company or sellers. Just disappointed there wasn’t an option to have it brought into my home and assembled (or maybe there was? If so, I didn’t see it). Beautiful and functional Just got it last week… Looks great on the island. Much superior over the previous boards in terms of feel when you cut, look and more hygienic based on the studies. Make sure to oil well. Will be in our kitchen for years to come…. Beautiful I bought this for my husband who loves to cook (and is very good at it!). Great cutting board! I love this cutting board! The only negative is that it slides all over when you are trying to chop things! I am sure this is because you are able to use both sides, but it would be better if it came with rubber feet on the bottom. I am thinking of putting a rubber mat underneath it to keep it from sliding. It is very well made, a beautiful color, and very heavy and durable. Quality entry into cutting board royalty As anyone who is serious about cooking knows, your knife skills can make or break your dish and if you want to up the ante on your ability to use a knife effectively an upper crust cutting board is a great place to start. Great cutting board! I love this cutting board! The only negative is that it slides all over when you are trying to chop things! I am sure this is because you are able to use both sides, but it would be better if it came with rubber feet on the bottom. John Boos Cherry Cutting Board This cutting board deserves a five-star rating. I was surprised to see it only had one other mediocre review, but I am glad I took a chance on it. My mother had previously purchased the same board by John Boos made of Walnut, and the quality impressed me enough to buy one of my own. The board is thick, of excellent quality, and has beautiful hues in the wood. It’s pretty obvious this board was made to last a long time, and I couldn’t be happier. A very solid investment and addition to my kitchen! John Boos CHYR01 Cutting Board The cutting board seemed to have been planed with either a dull planer blade or run through way too fast. Love this cutting board! I use this board for everything; I am able to make quick work of all my salads and vegetables. As much as I love the board, I do not like this knife. It causes items not to be cut clean through, as the surface does not fit the bowl because of the second blade. However, I use my single-blade, Mezzaluna knife and it works great. John Boos & Co. Mezzaluna Chopping Bowl This was just what I was looking for, very good quaility product and a quick shippment. I love it and use it often. Perfect Kitchen Tool and Gorgeous Too I received this as a gift recently. I have wanted a mezzaluna and poof! This is a beauty. It is a perfect size and the stainless steel rocker “knife” is wonderful because of the double blades. It is very sharp and will make quick work of what you are chopping. So far I have used it to chop onions, garlic, herbs, nuts, and coconut. It is my newest toy. The wood is simply stunning and you find that you want to display it. If it was a little larger I could use it to put my collection of tops in and also as a spinning area for my tops. Everyone who has been over for dinner and watches me pull it out of my walk-in pantry gushes with compliments. It looks that good and it is that practical.
