YOSHIHIRO- Shiroko-Kasumi Kenmuki Sashimi Chef Knife 4.75″ 120mm – MADE IN JAPAN

Image
Little knife for quick work Got this knife to work on eels, but now use it as my everyday, go-to blade. Slicing vegis, small blocked sashimi, makes the work quick and easy. And now I learn that there is a special eel knife – shorter handle, longer blade? And the markets which carried live eels no longer has them, its a holiday thing. Click to Editorial Reviews

Wusthof Classic 4-Piece Mignon Steak Set

Image
Very nice knives but…. The knives are made very well and look very nice but be carefull washing them. The wustof sysbol on the handels are just a sitcker and after being wased by hand about 18 times the label is peeling off from some of them. Why would the label on a $250 set of knives be made out of vinyl or some type of plastic? Still an excellent quality knife but what a cheap touch. Still great after 6 years I have nothing but good things to say about these steak knives, which I bought from Amazon more than six years ago. They work perfectly for their intended purpose, and I sharpen them when it’s necessary… but they don’t lose their edge as fast as other knives I’ve used. I put them in the dishwasher every time, with no problems with handles or blades. When they’re not in use, I keep them in the knife drawer — so they get used for a lot more than just meat. You can’t go wrong with these knives, and they look beautiful, too. Click to Editorial Reviews

Best cutting boards ever!! I received these as a gift. I love them!! Heavy boards never move on you no matter what you are cutting. Easy to clean & sanitize. The magnetic strip comes in handy when using the smaller board as a cheese tray. I use them everyday and have for a year and they still look great. High quality product! Click to Editorial Reviews

Masanobu VG-10 Sujihiki 10.5″ (27cm) – Right

Masanobu sujijiki 10.5 Great knife. You get what you pay for with this one. Retains edge for long time. Easy to sharpen. Use only waterstone for best results. My buddy has the same knife and he used an oil stone and gave his steel a nice shine. Excuse my sarcasm. Anyway, if you have the money to spend, I would spend it on this one. Paderno knife sharpener Paderno World Cuisine 10 1/4″ Round Diamond Sharpening Steel with Black Plastic Handle It re-edges nicely at first, but magically transforms into a great sharpener as the diamond portion wears away (few months of medium usage). Still cannot get the edges quite as sharp as a ceramic sharpener, but it will certainly do for any kitchen knife you throw its way, unless your my friend who has to have the sharpest knifes known to man…then pass on this sharpener. Sanelli 316825 Indented 10 Inch Cooks Knife

Sharp Design, Pun Intended This is an exceptional knife and one that I highly recommend for anyone who spends serious time preparing food and cooking. Previously, I used an 8″ Wustof chef’s knife. I like the added length of the 10″ blade. It gives me added leverage and yet is not cumbersome or unwieldy. The rubber grip is both practical and comfortable since my hands tend to get wet from washing and rinsing as I cook. The blade is very sharp. It’s not as heavy as the German knives but that’s not a drawback to me. The performance is outstanding. I cut the rind off a watermelon using single, easy strokes. I find that when cutting something dense like cucumber, the pieces still stick to the blade, despite the santoku design, but there are no drawbacks to it either. More testing will be needed to determine if the dimples are effective. Click to Editorial Reviews

Mango Leaf 17004 Bamboo Paddle Cutting Board, Set of 3

Good vlaue This is a good value because you get 3 sturdy bamboo cutting boards, of different sizes. The handle makes it great carrying the food to your cooking pot or table. I have a much larger, heavy tabletop bamboo board for the really big stuff like whole chickens, etc. So these are really handy for cutting and transporting, and display/serving. It was awaiting availability from the manufacturer when I ordered it. I was willing to wait. But after a couple of weeks, with no estimated arrival date, I emailed Amazon. They were no help, just brushed me off with “we have no info from the manufacturer”. Well, can’t you call them? I ended up contacting the manufacturer Mango myself, who initially did not answer. My 2nd email said “please respond”, which they did, with a date for availability. I forwarded that email to amazon, who again ignored it. I emailed amazon again, then finally got a “oh, you ordered it through US. I guess we’ll be getting it soon…” Obviously the employee… Click to

TBCL Utility Knife 17 Centimeters

took a chance on these knives I think $100 knives are hype so I took a chance on these more moderately priced knives and I believe it was worth it. They are the most expensive knives I have and now I have two of the utility knives (did give one away though), one of the boning knife, and one of the 15cm kitchen knife. You have to be careful with these knives because once they start cutting they will slide through, so you have to have good control and positioning or will cut yourself. The bad is that the one 17cm utility knife I’m using came with a not so perfect blade though it’s still very sharp. It has like three tiny knicks that are hard to see. The blades are thinner then normal blades but I was hoping the material be harder then this. Another problem is that even after washing/drying the utility knife after every use there is a tiny spot on the blade with a small discoloration in the metal. I wonder if it was used for something it shouldn’t have been used for or maybe the crafting

Zyliss Paring Knife, 3.5-inch, Colors Vary

Image
Gets the job done and looks good doing it This knife is perfect for just about any precise cutting task. The handle is grippy, and easy to hold. The blade is somewhat thin, but not so thin that it can’t cut through carrots with ease. Very balanced weight. All around decent knife for the money, and the design is nice. I prefer not to use the plastic sheath, primarily to prevent premature blade-dulling. As another reviewer noted, the stylized sheath has an opening near the tip that exposes the blade during insertion. If the sheath is held improperly, you can easily slice yourself. However, the sheath is handy, and I will keep it to protect the blade during transport. I could easily see myself buying another primarily for camping trips. Great knife for you lunch bag I love having this knife on hand in my lunch bag to cut up my fruits. The blade cover really keeps you safe. Color great; design flawed The knife blade is nice and sharp and the handle fits comfortably in the hand. However, t

Nice knife, dulled a bit quickly. Very nice. Feels good in the hand and is well-balanced. If I had one complaint, it’d be that the blade dulled fairly quickly. Although, I use those nylon cutting boards not wood or the fancy slate-looking ones they have now, which I’m sure has an impact. Also, I only cut pork, chicken, or veggies with it, not Pineapple or anything really corrosive. Click to Editorial Reviews

Wusthof Classic Epicurean Handle 6″ Cooks Knife with Epicurean Board

Image
More for the knife than the board, but both are great! The board is slightly above average, with some nice grooves around the border so that any juices dont spill over on the counter. The knife is awesome though, super sharp, well balanced, and makes for a great “rocking slice” motion with dicing whatever it may be. Tramontina Wood Handle Paring Knife Display

Image
a genuine bargain note to editors: I am reasonably sure that this item actually refers to a multi-pack (I suspect a dozen) of the item — can you verify count and correct? You must have several paring knives in your kitchen. They are versatile, and you know you use them several times daily. So, a good one at a good price is important. There are several ones from any number of Japanese or German companies, but these will cost you an Andy Jackson per. This dandy thing is only a few bucks, and will do the job of its more expensive brethren. It is the highest quality metal: high carbon stainless steel. Super sharp, the edge is reasonably durable, and quite efficient at cutting. However, since it is made in Brazil, the cost is a mere fraction of what you would normally have to spend. I love it, and suggest you get several. One warning: the blade is flat from handle to tip; the cutting edge does not curve up or down at the tip; for some, that makes this blade less versatile, but I do not… Cl

Wusthof Classic 8 in. Carving Knife 4522-20

Image
An Excellent Choice. I like fine kitchen knives and Wustoff products are at or very near the top, in my experience. The fit and finish are always flawless. This knife makes an excellent carving knife for chicken, duck, small hams and small roasts. The blade has just enough flex to bend around a bone to continue a fine cut. The balance is great, the heft is good and the edge stays keen for a long time. I highly recommend it as a general purpose carving tool and one that you’ll reach for often. A 9″ or 10″ model would be a better choice for large hams, roasts and 15 lb+ turkeys. Click to Editorial Reviews

YOSHIHIRO- Shiroko-Kasumi Funayuki Chef Knife 6″ 150mm – MADE IN JAPAN

Image
Funayuki 6″ I got this for a present this year. It was between this and the yanagi of the similar price, and I am glad I ended up with this size. Firstly this isn’t exactly a “general use” knife and may be a bit specialized in its tasks but that should be evident from you purchasing a single bevel knife. Pros: Great slicer and much more manageable than a 9″ if you are doing delicate tasks HRC-63 is plenty hard and holds a good edge Does everything thrown at it (within reason) extremely well I couldn’t be happier. Cons: It has a (lets call it 600 grit) finish? Pretty odd. It’s not ugly but being a carbon blade it can help trap water, though you should dry it off thoroughly regardless. The cutting portion when sharpened can be mirror finished so its less of a annoyance. It does require either water stones or diamond stones to sharpen properly. All in all this is a great knife. It has proved perfect for all the tasks I have and is really nice to… Click to Editorial Reviews

Medium Round Handle Cutting Board with Groove Maple Cherry

Image
Nicely made The craftmanship and quality of wood are good. The grooves are a little too deep to clean easily with a wipe, although running water over the board seems to work well. Perhaps a little wider board would be more useful. Overall, I am quite pleased with the cutting board. Click to Editorial Reviews

Zyliss Kitchen Scissors, Assorted Colors, 72-pack

Image
Not complete! The product is good, but I haven’t yet received all of those that I ordered two are still missing! Hoping to get them soon! Sharp, great scissor It’s sharp enough for me. For my kitchen exactly what I wanted in addition to the cheap junk scissors. Worth the price! Work fine but you don’t get to choose your color These scissors work as scissors should. So far, no complaints about that. However, as happened to a previous reviewer, I ordered red and got green. Even the plastic bag they came in had a label that said “red.” The green is fine, but why give a choice if you’re not going to fulfill it? I give four stars because the scissors work fine, but not five, just because of the color. I’m a little annoyed. Click to Editorial Reviews

Meridian Elite Boning Knife, Stiff, 5.00 in (ME3692-5) Category: Meridian Elite Knife

Image
Worth the price if you need it I have a collection of these marvelous knives but did not have the firm boning knife. I usually use the flexible boning knife but this firm one really has a lot of uses. The entire line of Messermeister Meridian Elite knives is, to me, the best value out there (and I’ve been cutting meat for fifty years). The Meridian series is the next to the top — both use the best steels and have a slightly different edge than the lower two series (very nice and less expensive). The top series is prettier but I buy knives for the steel. I refuse to buy any of the “popular” knives designed for the rich folks and sold by the department stores — their steel is nowhere as good as their prices are high. My “fancy knives”, always gifts from well meaning friends, lose their edge and require sharpening instead of just honing. After five years of hard use, honed only by a diamond steel, the Messermeister edges are wonderful. These are lifetime investments –… Click to Editorial

White Whale Santoku Knife

Image
Understated yet GREAT knife An unknown entity in the USA kitchen knife world, there is one thing people should know about Fallkniven: it is a fantastic knife brand – their designs are eminently functional and their materials always premium. The “white whale” has a silly name, but is hands down an amazing kitchen knife: Santokus are eminently usable and do many things very well. And this Fallkniven 7 inch Santoku is the best I have owned and probably the end of the line for me (and I have owned a few): the steel is tops (VG-10), it is laminated, the blade is thin, the handle ergonomic. And you can sharpen this very easily to arm-hair shaving sharpness. it is a joy to use. slicing and chopping – a very universal knife, joy to use knife. as an ambitioned amateur cook this is the knife i find myself using the most – very accurate and also very usable for bigger sloppier jobs. keep the edge sharp -on occasion, it is a very hard steel and doesn’t dull quickly- and it makes short work of any

Wusthof Grand Prix 10-Piece Cooking Couple’s Knife Set with Block

Image
Great Set of Knives, Some Quibbles With Selection There are really two main competitors in the high-end mainstream kitchen knife market: Henckels and Wusthof. Those who have used both usually have a preference. My preference (and therefore bias you should know about) is for the Wusthofs. The Wusthof Grand Prix line is a more modern design than the Classic series, with a simple black handle. The balance and grip of these knives are as close to perfect as I have found. For those wondering what benefits a higher priced knife provides, one benefit is that the blade (or tang) is one piece all the way through the handle. This makes the blade much stronger, and less likely to snap. This set includes an 8 inch chef’s knife, a 3

Hard to Beat These Knives I bought my first set of these knives while stationed in W. Germany in 1979, which were lost in a house fire.
